School at the Gesaeuse National Park
In the Gesaeuse National Park, it is one of the main targets of the educational mandate to provide an opportunity for experiencing nature consciously.
In the company of national park guides, the children may investigate the species-rich micro-cosmos of decaying wood, penetrate step by step into the fascinating world of animal footprints or simply smell the aromatic scent of resin wood: An adventure walk in the Gesaeuse mountains around the river Enns gorge means more than just walking, looking or listening. It is all about communicating not only knowledge but also experiences. It means to understand the many impressions of nature with all senses, to ‘feel’, smell and taste them. Attractive field activities, intensive dialogues between the children and the trained park guides, and playing games make the children an active part of the programme and familiarize them with the national park idea. The current folder for schools illustrates a rich variety of options for school classes of all age groups. The National Park - kids project (kids stands for ”kommt in die Schule” or “comes to school”) and the ”Weidendom on Tour” project (”willow dome on tour”), for example, offer perfectly trained national park guides who will come directly to the classroom and prepare the children for a guided tour through the national park at a later date.
In addition to the ”normal” half-day and full-day excursions, there is the possibility of special theme tours such as forest adventure walks, activities related to water, guided walks to alpine pastures, and much more. These special day events are but a small example of possible options.
Several-day project weeks featuring prepared programmes or individually designed highlights, are an attractive opportunity to intensively experience the Gesause National Park and get it “under your skin”. Simultaneously, the ”biodiversity days” have been developed focussing on water, forest and mountain issues. The school classes cooperate with researchers and thereby get to know more about being active in nature conservation and scientific research work (one or several days). Registration and information regarding the individual programmes and assistance with the organisation of your project days can be obtained from the national park information office in Admont:
